Good Girl Gladys Farmette began as a form of self-care as well as an act of resistance against a world that too often values profit at the expense of people, sustainability and quality. After years of experiencing chronic stress as a School Counselor and foster parent, I found myself spending more and more time in the garden. What started as a hobby to process a hard day, over the years grew into a passion, a way to reconnect with my family's history of farming in West Tennessee and eventually led to me quitting a career I thought I would spend the rest of my life doing.
The backbone of GGGFarmette is of course Dave-- who has lent encouragement, bread baking, Excel expertise and lots of manual labor. The man is truly an angel and none of this could have happened without him.
Our produce is Certified Naturally Grown, meaning everything is cultivated to the highest organic standards—free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and GMOs. We focus on growing heirloom vegetables because they carry both rich history and the best flavor.
We also proudly raise a growing flock of heritage chickens and ducks. We call them “heritage” because they are breeds that haven’t been genetically altered for rapid growth or high egg production. During the day, the birds roam freely across one acre, enjoying a natural diet of bugs, grass, and fresh air rather than living confined indoors or in outside pens.
They are safeguarded by our feisty Chinese geese, Demonica and Demonicus, and our motley crew of dogs: Tanner, Brownie, Hope, and Keo.
